Jammu, April 6, 2025: In a spine-chilling twist to the ongoing investigation into the infamous Greater Kailash gold shop robbery, Jammu Police have uncovered a shocking new development-a cold-blooded murder executed to silence a key individual involved in the case and bury the dark secrets of the crime. This shocking revelation exposes the extreme lengths to which the accused were willing to go to protect their illicit fortune.
On April 5, 2025, Ashok Kumar, a distraught father, reported his 24-year-old son Harsh Dev Sharma as missing at the Satwari Police Station. Harsh had gone missing 2-3 days earlier, leaving his family in a state of despair. Despite relentless efforts by the family, Harsh’s whereabouts remained unknown. In the hope of finding some lead, Ashok and Harsh’s brother provided the police with Harsh’s contact information for further investigation.
This crucial information was shared by SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma JKAS, during a press briefing. It was through his sharp insight and astute decision-making that these shocking details came to light. Had it not been for his intelligence and leadership, this case could have taken an entirely different direction, potentially leading to a miscarriage of justice. Ajay Sharma’s diligence and strategic approach played a pivotal role in unraveling the complex layers of this case, ensuring that the truth was exposed and the culprits were held accountable.
What followed was a breakthrough: an analysis of Harsh’s call records revealed communications between him and the robbery suspects-Rahul Sharma, Tushar Kumar, and Bharat Bhushan, all of whom were implicated in the Greater Kailash gold robbery (FIR No. 19/2025, PS Gangyal). Bharat Bhushan, aged 22, a resident of Lower Kanal, Bishnah, was immediately taken into custody for questioning. Under intense interrogation, Bharat made a bombshell confession-Harsh was not just a casual acquaintance but a close friend of Sunil Sharma, one of the principal figures behind the robbery.
Bharat revealed that Sunil, before carrying out the robbery, had carelessly disclosed the plan to Harsh, who was unaware of the grave consequences of the information he had learned. However, the communication between Sunil and Harsh was severed after Rahul Sharma, one of the conspirators, sent Sunil away to a drug de-addiction center in Kathua on February 10, ostensibly to evade police suspicion and prevent any further contact with Harsh.
Left without direct contact with Sunil, Harsh began reaching out to Rahul Sharma, demanding his fair share of the robbery proceeds. Harsh also threatened to expose the crime if his demands were not met. His constant pressure created panic among the conspirators, who feared that Harsh might go to the police and ruin their carefully crafted escape plan.
In a desperate bid to eliminate the potential threat, the main accused, Rahul Sharma (an advocate), Tushar Kumar, and Bharat Bhushan, devised a gruesome plan to murder Harsh. Under the guise of celebrating Rahul’s birthday, the trio lured Harsh to the Surinsar-Mansar area. Once there, they offered him alcoholic beverages, and in a cold and calculated act, they murdered Harsh. To erase all traces of their crime, they disposed of his body in a remote, secluded spot approximately 8 kilometers away from the Surinsar area, hoping that this would permanently bury the evidence.
In light of these shocking revelations, the missing person case has now been transformed into FIR No. 68, with charges under sections 103/301/3(5) BNS at PS Satwari. A full-scale investigation is underway, with police forces, along with the EMIC and forensic teams, working tirelessly to uncover every aspect of this heinous conspiracy. Senior officers from the South Zone, under the direct supervision of the SSP Jammu, are overseeing the investigation’s progress.
This grisly twist to the Greater Kailash robbery case paints a stark picture of the extent of criminal desperation and the lengths to which the perpetrators were willing to go to preserve their stolen wealth.
