Akhnoor, 5th February: In a major breakthrough, Akhnoor Police has busted a notorious cattle theft gang and arrested two accused involved in multiple incidents of livestock theft. The police have successfully recovered a stolen buffalo and a horse, along with the vehicle used in the crime. Authorities have confirmed that the gang has been involved in similar thefts across various regions, and further recoveries are expected.
On Tuesday, a written complaint was lodged at Akhnoor Police Station by Bulla Ram, son of Munshi Ram, resident of Tanda, Tehsil Akhnoor, District Jammu, regarding the theft of his buffalo. Based on this complaint, an FIR (No. 21/2025) was registered under Sections 331(4)/303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Akhnoor Police Station.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor, Varinder Gupta, and led by Inspector Rohit Gandhi, SHO Akhnoor. With technical assistance and extensive efforts, the police identified and detained two suspects, who were later taken into custody. The accused were identified as: Mohammad Amjad, son of Mohammad Sadiq, resident of Khaleti, Nagrota and Nazir Ahmed, son of Allah Rakha, resident of Kot Bhalwal, District Jammu.
During interrogation, both accused confessed to their involvement in the crime. Based on their disclosure, the stolen buffalo was recovered in the presence of the complainant. Additionally, the police also recovered a stolen horse, identified with the help of the accused. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
The police investigation has revealed that this gang has been involved in multiple cattle theft incidents across different areas. Officials believe that further investigations will lead to more recoveries and uncover additional cases linked to the gang.
