In a significant breakthrough, the Thanamandi Police have arrested a notorious fraudster, Javed Iqbal Tass, who has been involved in a series of ATM frauds targeting innocent citizens. The accused, identified as Javed Iqbal Tass, son of Mohd Ashraf, a resident of Bhanghai, Tehsil Thanamandi, District Rajouri, has been running a deceptive scheme in which he befriended unsuspecting individuals and duped them by swapping their ATM cards under the pretext of helping them withdraw money.
In one of the recent cases, Tass conned Tahira Parveen, wife of Mohd Alyas, a resident of Saaj, Thanamandi, of Rs. 17,000. Following this fraudulent transaction, FIR No. 146/2024 was registered under Sections 303(2), 318(4) BNS at Police Station Thanamandi. In another incident, Tass targeted Nazir Hussain, son of Wazir Hussain, a resident of Danna Husplote, Thanamandi, by swapping his ATM card and illegally withdrawing Rs. 16,400 from his account. This led to the registration of FIR No. 109/2024 under Sections 420/34 IPC at Police Station Thanamandi.
Criminal web unraveled: During interrogation, Javed Iqbal Tass admitted to his fraudulent activities, and a significant recovery was made by the police. 11 ATM cards belonging to various victims were found in his possession, revealing the extent of his deceitful actions. This alarming discovery has exposed the scale at which he had been exploiting the trust of innocent citizens for financial gain.
The investigation further uncovered that Tass had carried out similar fraudulent schemes across several districts, indicating a wider criminal network and a long-standing pattern of deceit. His modus operandi involved befriending unsuspecting individuals, offering assistance at ATM kiosks, and then swapping their ATM cards to withdraw money from their accounts.
