Father, mother detained for questioning: SDPO Mendhar

Rajouri, July 10: In a late evening harrowing incident of female infanticide in Mankote tehsil of Mendhar subdivision in Poonch district, two newborn twins were allegedly killed reportedly by the father as the family was ‘unhappy’ with the birth of two girls.
Reliable sources said that the father was so upset over the birth of two more girls, as they already have four daughters, and reportedly in a fit of rage he killed both the girls.
The incident happened in village Chajjla Khani, and the accused father has been identified as Mohammed Khurshid.
Sources said it was a normal delivery at home and both the newborn girls were reportedly killed by slitting their throat.
“Police swung into action after information about the incident was received. The bodies of two newborn twins were recovered from the house and brought to sub district hospital at Mendhar for medico-legal formalities and autopsy,” said Bhupinder Singh, SDPO Mendhar.
When asked whether the girls were killed by slitting their throats, SDPO said: “It is too early to comment. Doctors are on job and the cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is released”.
SDPO informed that father & mother (already under treatment in SDH Mendhar) have been detained for questioning.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Wednesday a 26-years-old mother gave birth to twin girl babies at her home in village Chajjla Khani
In the late evening hours police received information about the murder of both the girls and on reaching the village, the police found both the babies in a pool of blood reportedly in the bathroom.
Bodies of the babies were shifted to SDH Mendhar for medico-legal formalities.
