Consultant Gyane suspended after allegations of new-born death; Inquiry initiated

Rajouri, June 12: Tension prevailed at the sub district hospital here at Nowshera in Rajouri district in the afternoon on Wednesday when the parents/relatives staged a protest blaming the doctor for the death of the infant during delivery.
Reportedly parents alleged that the new-born died after slipping from the hands of the Consultant Gynaecologist Dr Baba Singh of SDH Nowshera.
However, according to the official version the infant’s death is intrauterine death (died in the womb) associated with polyhydramnios (excessive liquor) and 3 turns of the cord around the neck of the fetus.
As the matter of allegations of infant’s negligence death followed by protest by the parents/family members, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Om Parkash Bhagat directed Chief Medical Officer Rajouri for the suspension of the doctor and to initiate inquiry into the allegations.
CMO, Dr M L Rana vide his office order (CMO/R/2024-25/1844-50 dt 12/6/2024)) on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner, placed the doctor Baba under suspension with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the inquiry initiated into the alleged allegations.
During the suspension period, Dr Baba will be attached in the office of CMO at Rajouri.
Meanwhile, CMO has also constituted an inquiry team comprising of Dr Suresh Kapahi (Consultant Gayne,CHC Kalakot) as chairman; Dr. Neeru (Consultant Gayne, SDH Sundebani; & Dr Bilal Bhat ( Consultant Surgery, SDH Nowshera), both members.
The team is directed to commence the inquiry immediately & to submit a factual report on the cause of infant’s death within 2 days.
BMO Nowshera, Dr Iqbal Malik has been asked to take immediate steps & ensure strict adherence to protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
“This action is taken to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation and to improve the overall healthcare system” read CMO’s inquiry order.
Meanwhile, sources said the body of the new-born has been kept in the hospital for the examination by the inquiry team.
