Get vehicle documents updated within 15 days to avoid blacklisting: Transport Commissioner

Rajouri, November 17: In the second tragic road accident within 12 days in Rajouri district, two persons, including a minor girl and the driver, were killed while 5 others were injured when a Tata Sumo on the way to Shahdra in Thanamandi tehsil skidded off the road and fell in a 150-meter deep gorge.
As per reports, seven persons were travelling in the ill-fated Tata Sumo for pilgrimage to Shahdra shrine and all the injured were initially rescued to the Community Health Center (CHC) at Thanamandi where doctors declared two brought dead.
After initial treatment at Thanamandi, all the injured were referred to Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) Rajouri for specialised treatment.
Medical Superintendent AH GMC informed that the condition of all the injured is stable and responding to treatment.
“However, one patient namely Alia Khan d/o Zulfqar Khan, resident of Garati, has been referred to GMC hospital in Jammu for specialised treatment which is not available in GMC Rajouri,” said Dr. Mehmood.
Sources said that Tata Sumo was on the way to Shahdra from Thanamandi and fell into a deep gorge after the driver, who was also killed in the accident, lost control of vehicle on a sharp curve near Hasplote village allegedly due to rash driving.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Yasir (driver) s/o Mohd Hussain, and Shazia Kouser d/o Shafiq Ahmed both residents of village Bhangai (Thanamandi).
Injured passengers include Shakeel Ahmed (25 yrs) son of Faqir Mohammad resident of Prori; Pooja Devi (48 yrs), wife of Chaman Lal and her daughter Arushi (17yrs); Alia Khan, all residents of Garati village, and Kala Khan, son of Noor Mohammad of Muradpur village Rajouri.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the evening, Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal visited AH GMC, where a dedicated medical team worked tirelessly to assess & address their conditions, and interacted with the injured and assured them of financial assistance.
Vikas Kundal inquired about the health of the injured and facilities being provided to them.
He directed the medical team to provide the injured with necessary and effective treatment, minimising the risk of complications & ensuring a smoother path to recovery.
On November 6, an overloaded & rashly driven Tempo met with an accident on Rajouri-Budhal road near Kanchi Mor resulting in three deaths on the spot and injuries to 17 others.
In the aftermath of Doda accident, in which 39 people were killed, and in view of frequent road accidents across UT of J&K, Transport Commissioner on Friday in a Public Notice asked all the vehicle owners, including plying without having necessary documents, to get their documents (fitness certificate, road tax, validity permit, payment of passenger tax etc) updated within 15 days positively.
“Failing which all the violating vehicles would be blacklisted and action as warranted under rules shall be initiated against them without giving any further chance” reads Public Notice.
