Rajouri, Sept 12: A soldier sacrificed his life for the country while three others, including a Special Police Officer (SPO) of district Rajouri police, have received injuries in an ongoing gunfight in Sujaigala anti-terror operation in the Narla area of the Koteranka sub-district of Rajouri district.
An anti-terror operation was jointly launched by the Indian Army, District Rajouri police & CRPF at about 3 pm on Tuesday after specific inputs about the presence of 2-3 terrorists in the area.
A Canine member of the 21 Army Unit of the India Army, namely a 6-year-old female named Labrador Kent, gave her own life to save her hendler’s life.
Kent was leading a column of soldiers on the trail of terrorists who were attempting to flee the scene.
“Kent was at the forefront of ‘Operation Sujaligala. Kent was leading a column of soldiers on the trail of the fleeing terrorists. It came under heavy hostile fire. While shielding its handler, it laid down its life in the best traditions of the Indian Army,” said PRO (Defence) Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
During a search Operation Sujaligala, a gunfight broke out between terrorists and soldiers near Narla village on Tuesday afternoon.
“One terrorist neutralised, one Army jawan lost his life; three others, including one police SPO injured in the ensuing encounter in Rajouri district,” said Additional DGP Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh.
The martyr has been identified as Sepoy Jaswinder Singh (RR Unit) while the injured were identified as Sub Inspector, Mohd Ashraf; Constable (SPO) Mohd Rafiq, and Constable Mohd Iqbal.
The search-and-cordon operation was launched in the Rajouri district on Monday following the suspicious movement of two people.
After the terrorists managed to escape Security Forces chased them and contact with the terrorists was re-established near Narla village on Tuesday.
