2783 bunkers completed, about 500 still in different stages of execution in Rajouri

Rajouri, Sept 26: Out of sanctioned more than three thousand individual and community bunkers for Rajouri district in Union Territory of J&K, during the last about four years 2783 bunkers have been completed till the last week of September month.
This was disclosed in a meeting chaired by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, and attended by CPO, Mohammad Khurshid; SE PWD, Assistant Commissioner Development, Vijay Verma; ExEn PWD Rajouri, Maqbool Hussain, and Block Development Officers.
Meanwhile, Ramesh Choudhary, Sarpanch of Deeing Panchayat in Seri Block of Nowshera sub-division in Rajouri district has alleged that many individuals/contractors who have constructed bunkers in Seri Block are still waiting for the payments.
“Many among them have taken loans from the banks for the construction of the bunkers on a priority basis, but the RDD department has failed to make their payments and these people are facing problems in returning the loans,” said Ramesh Choudhry.
He alleged that the people also facing many problems as payments of MGNREGA wages and works are delayed for months to gather.
Ramesh Choudhary has appealed to the LT Governor Administration and DDC Rajouri to make necessary early arrangements for the delayed payments in both cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that these bunkers are being constructed by the departments of Rural Development (RDD) and Public Works (PWD).
RDD officials informed Vikas Kundal that the work on 1578 bunkers out of 1867 bunkers has been completed and the rest are in different faces of execution while PWD officials informed that out of 1294 bunkers the work on 1255 is complete.
The DDC, VIkas Kundal asked the concerned officers to complete the work on all the slab-level bunkers in one week and all the other bunkers under execution in two weeks.
He directed the concerned officers to “Ensure that the bunkers are provided to all the border inhabitants so that their lives are saved from the cross-border shelling and to work double shifts to complete the work on the rest of the bunkers in a time-bound manner” said Vikas Kundal.
More than three thousand bunkers were sanctioned by the Government of India for the border people of Rajouri district where there are 95 vulnerable locations that fall in between 0-3 km distance from the LoC.
These bunkers are distributed in various vulnerable habitations, hamlets and among individual families near the LoC after assessing the needs and requirements of the most deserving families in Manjakote, Doongi, Panjgrian, Lamb, Jhangar, Bhowani, and Nowshera area.
