Rajouri, May 23: Police teams headed by Salil Chowdhary, in-charge of Chingus-Chatiyar police post during frisking of the vehicles have rescued 21 bovine animals from the clutches of bovine smugglers.
“Police in Rajouri foiled a bovine smuggling bid and seized the vehicle used in the crime besides arrest of accused driver namely Qaramat Hussain,” said a senior police officer.
Pertinent to mention here that during the last seven days the district Rajouri police have rescued 50 bovine animals under the jurisdiction of Rajouri & Thanamandi police stations.
The police claimed that in the evening hours on Monday, a police team headed by Sub Inspector (probationer) Sahil Chowdhary, in-charge police post during frisking/checking of the vehicles at Kallar Police Naka on Jammu-Poonch highway intercepted truck 2 Axle vehicle on Jammu-Poonch highway bearing registration No. JK2CD-2627 & was moving towards Poonch.
Under the close supervision of Fareed Ahmed, SHO, Rajouri police station, the police team the truck loaded with 14 bovine animals tied with ropes in an improper and a very cruel manner without food and water.
On questioning, the driver Qaramat Hussain s/o Liaqat Hussain resident of Bhimber Gali (Poonch district) failed to produce the requisite permission for the transportation of the animals and was arrested on the spot.
In this connection, cognizance has been taken under relevant sections of law in Police station Rajouri and further investigation is going on.
In the second incident, a police team headed by Sahil Choudhary under close supervision of SHO Rajouri, Fareed Ahmed during patrolling at the Naghoon area rescued 7 bovine animals from the clutches of a bovine smuggler name Mohd Manzoor S/O Mohd Khan R/O Tandwal Rajouri.
He was transporting the bovine animals on foot towards the Poonch/ Kashmir Valley.
In this connection, Rajouri police have also taken the Cognizance under relevant sections of law and further investigation is on.
On May 20, police teams from Nowshera & Thanamandi police stations had rescued 13 and 7 bovine animals from the clutches of bovine smugglers.
On May 16, Thanamandi police in an action against the bovine smugglers have rescued nine bovine animals from the clutches of bovine smugglers.
