Rajouri, Apr 26: World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) was celebrated on Tuesday by the departments of Environmental Sciences & Centre for Biodiversity Studies (CBS) in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri.
WIPD is celebrated every year on April 26 to learn about the role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity.
The theme of WIPD-2022 focuses on ‘IP & Youth Innovating for a Better Future’ and witnessing how these energetic, creative & innovative minds are driving positive change.
Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice-Chancellor, BGSBU in his message emphasized that the WIPD has been celebrated every year since 1970 to raise awareness of the impact of how patents, copyright, trademarks, and design affect our daily life.
“The role of intellectual property (IP) rights is used for encouraging, innovation and creativity in societies across the globe, and the day finds the potential of the younger generation to get a better solution for the transition to a sustainable future,” said Prof Akbar Masood.
“The influence of intellectual property protection around the world should be expanded, and countries must encourage publicising and popularising intellectual property protection laws and regulations so as to improve public legal awareness of intellectual property rights and encourage invention-innovation activities,” said Dr. A. A. Shah, Associate Dean, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology.
“This year’s theme of WIPD celebrates youth-led innovation and creativity, therefore, IP rights can support young people’s goals, helping them transform their ideas into reality, generate income, create jobs, and make a positive impact on the world around them,” said Dr. Shreekar Pant, Coordinator, CBS.
Dr. Mamta Bhat, Assistant Professor, stressed that WIPD is observed to disseminate alertness about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.
An anti-plagiarism pledge was also taken on this occasion by the faculty, scholars, and students of Environmental Sciences, CBS.
