Rajouri, Apr 25: A BJP delegation from Rajouri district headed by Mohd Iqbal Malik (DDC member Darhal territorial constituency) and Abdul Qayoom Mir (DDC member-Thanamandi) met with Divisional Commissioner at Jammu and demanded the reopening of the historic Mughal Road as soon as possible.
Mughal road is the shortest route to Kashmir Valley from the border districts of Rajouri & Poonch.
Others who were part of the delegation include BJP district secretary, Samreen Khan; state secretary Minority Morcha, Saleem Naz Mughal; Umar Mirza, sarpanch and district vice president BJyM, Arsan Malik.
The Mughal road like in the past has been closed for any type of movement due to a heavy accumulation of snow from November last year.
“The closure of Mughal road is causing difficulties to the inhabitants of both the border districts of Rajouri & Poonch and other areas which include stoppage of trade, medical emergencies and frequent movement of the people,” said Iqbal Malik.
“People of Rajouri and Poonch districts especially, patients and students are suffering most with the repeated closing of an important highway, which links these two districts with the Kashmir valley as the shortest route,” said Abdul Qayoom Malik.
District secretary & sarpanch Samreen khan urged to re-open the Mughal road for the general public and vehicular movement.
BJP leaders in a press statement said that the Divisional commissioner Jammu Dr. Raghav Langer has assured to open the Mughal road within two days.
