J&K: Contraband worth Rs 18 crores seized

Srinagar, Feb 5: J&K Police on Saturday claimed to have seized contraband worth Rs 18 crores close to the Line of Control in Kashmir.
Police said that two people have been arrested in this regard.
A police spokesman said the contraband was recovered from two vehicles in the border town of Uri in Baramulla district.
“ ..A police party headed by SHO Police Station Uri were patrolling the area when two vehicles were found on a link road in a suspicious condition. Police party moved towards the vehicles when both the drivers tried to flee from the spot. However, both of them were apprehended,” the spokesman said.
Eight packets of contraband, apparently heroin weighing approximately about nine kilos, were recovered from the two vehicles.
“The worth of the contraband in the black market is about 18 crores,” police said, adding both the persons were questioned about it.
The two drivers were identified as Mohammad Sabir Barwal of Kamalkote Uri and Parvaiz Ahmad Tantray of Reban Rafiabad Sopore.
During their personal searches cheques to the tune of over Rs 14 lakhs were recovered, police said.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and investigation has been taken up
