Srinagar, Nov 9: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested fourteen drug peddlers in separate raids conducted across the Valley and recovered a large quantity of contraband from their possession on Tuesday.
A police spokesman said three drug peddlers were arrested from Gudoora Bridge Newa. Subsequently, a raid was conducted at the residence of one notorious drug peddler Junaid Khurshid alias Junni Katta in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
He said besides brown sugar, a huge quantity of poppy straw and Rs 2,70,471 cash were recovered from the possession of Junni Katta.
Meanwhile, police at a checkpoint on Tahab road in Pulwama district intercepted a person who was moving in a suspicious circumstance. During frisking, 1200 ml of codeine were recovered from the possession of Bashir Ahmad, the spokesman said.
In a separate operation, acting on a specific information, a police party from Litter conducted a raid at village Naina Batapora in Pulwama district.
During the search, one Kg of Charas was recovered from Khursheed Ahmad. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigations are in progress, the police said.
The spokesperson said Kangan police apprehended a drug peddler identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bajard and recovered 140 gms of Charas and six kg of Bhangpatri from his possession. The accused was arrested and a case under relevant sections of law was registered. In the central district of Budgam, police party at a checkpoint established near Hardpanzoo crossing intercepted two persons roaming suspiciously.
During the search, police were able to recover 220 gms of Charas from their possession. They have been identified as Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Larbal Dassan and Nisar Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Harda Latina, the police said and added that a case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Beerwah.
