- Q Notorious Drug Peddler Arrested in Akhnoor; 11 Criminals booked Under PITNDPS/PSA in five months, 30 FIRs against Bovine smugglers.

Jammu, December 29: Akhnoor police has successfully apprehended a well-known criminal, Abhinash Kumar alias Kanha, son of Vikram Singh, residing at Ward No. 4, Jia Potta Akhnoor Tehsil, District Jammu. Evading multiple arrest warrants, the accused faced charges in various criminal cases.
Under the leadership of SHO Akhnoor Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq and supervised by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma, a specialized police team conducted a targeted operation leading to the arrest of this notorious drug peddler. Notably, the accused had a pending warrant under PITNDPS, issued vide order No. 69 of 2023 on December 28, 2023, by the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, following a dossier from the district police highlighting the accused’s activities.
The arrested individual had a history of engaging in criminal activities, particularly under the NDPS Act, involving multiple cases detailed as follows: 1) FIR No. 66/2023 under sections 08/21/22/25/29 NDPS Act at P/S Akhnoor, 2) FIR No. 266/2023 under sections 8/21/22/29/60 NDPS Act at P/S Akhnoor, 3) Preventive measures under US 107/117 CrPC at P/S Akhnoor.
It’s imperative to note that SHO Akhnoor Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, under the guidance of SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma, has taken action against 11 criminals under PITNDPS and PSA within just five months of assuming office. Moreover, there have been around 30 FIRs lodged against Bovine smugglers and 20 FIRs filed for the recovery of ‘Commercial’ quantities of prohibited drugs.
The community in Akhnoor has found solace in Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq’s arrival, attributing it to the crackdown on criminals, anti-social elements, drug, and bovine smugglers in the area. Notably, he swiftly resolved high-profile cases such as the Highway Robbery and Jail drug supply cases in a remarkably short time.
It was after this arrest that 12 highway robbery cases of other districts were also solved due to alertness shown by Akhnoor police.
The local populace has commended the effectiveness of SHO Akhnoor and anticipates a substantial reduction in criminal and anti-social activities in his tenure. Inspector Zaheer, recognized for his stringent stance against drug smugglers, previously initiated a successful campaign against drug peddlers during his tenure as SHO Miran Sahib, bringing numerous notorious drug peddlers to justice.
