Rajouri, June 11: Police have registered an FIR against four persons in connection with a protest held in Kotranka area of Rajouri district over the death of Nusrat Jahan, which protesters alleged was caused by negligence on the part of doctors and paramedical staff at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri.
According to police sources, FIR No. 74/2026 has been registered against four individuals, including PDP leader Guftar Ahmad Choudhary. Sources said that one of the other accused is reportedly an uncle of the deceased, Nusrat Jahan.
Police sources stated that under the leadership of PDP leader Guftar Ahmad Choudhary, protesters demanding justice in the death case allegedly blocked the Rajouri-Kotranka road for nearly one and a half hours, causing significant inconvenience to the public.
Due to the road blockade during intense summer heat, passengers, patients, and other commuters reportedly faced considerable hardship.
Police said that the blockade severely disrupted traffic movement and affected normal public life, following which a case was registered under the relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway.
However, the police action has reportedly triggered resentment among sections of the local population. Protesters and residents argued that they were peacefully demanding justice for Nusrat Jahan and that legal action against those raising their voice has caused dissatisfaction among the public.
Protesters questioned why FIRs were being registered against people demanding justice while no action has so far been taken against those accused of being responsible for the death.
They said the situation raises serious legal and ethical questions about whether the law is being applied equally to all concerned.
Police officials have stated that all aspects of the case are being examined and that further action will be taken based on facts emerging during the investigation.
