Jammu, July 30, 2025: Continuing its relentless and strategic crackdown on the narcotics highway, Udhampur Police has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to severing drug supply lines, with the alert team of Police Post Tikri successfully intercepting a significant consignment of heroin and arresting four inter-district narco-smugglers. This latest success, achieved under the comprehensive anti-drug doctrine championed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, underscores the critical importance of vigilant policing at strategic checkpoints like the Tikri Naka.

The operation was carried out by a dedicated police team from Police Post Tikri, led by its Incharge, Probationary Sub-Inspector (PSI) Manveer Singh. While performing routine vehicle checking duties at the Tikri Naka point on the National Highway, the team intercepted a suspicious vehicle, a car bearing registration number JK15C-2964, which was en route from Jammu towards Srinagar. A subsequent and thorough search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of 71.95 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin, commonly known as ‘chitta’.

All four occupants of the vehicle, who were attempting to smuggle the contraband into the Kashmir valley, were immediately arrested on the spot. They have been identified as Mohd Younis Malla, son of Mohd Yaqoob Malla, resident of Shilvat, Bandipora, who was driving the vehicle; Wahid Maqbool, son of Mohd Maqbool Mir, resident of Sumbal, Bandipora; Qaiser Ahmed Ganie, son of Nisar Ahmed, resident of Arampora Sumbal, Bandipora; and Ahmed Ganie, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, resident of Shilvat Sumbal, Bandipora.

In connection with this seizure, a case under FIR No. 117/2025 has been registered at Police Station Rehambal, invoking sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act.

This successful interception is not an isolated incident but a direct result of the robust and proactive strategy implemented under the leadership of SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure. This strategy has consistently emphasized dominating the national highway, a known corridor for narco-trafficking, and empowering field units like Police Post Tikri under the diligent command of young officers like PSI Manveer Singh. The force’s recent successes, including the attachment of properties worth crores belonging to notorious traffickers, have already sent a strong message that Udhampur is no safe haven for drug criminals. This latest arrest further cements that reputation.

Police are working to determine the source from which the narcotics were procured in the Jammu region and the intended recipients and distribution network in the Kashmir valley.
