District Administration Rolls Out a Grand Reception for the Pilgrims

POONCH, JULY 28: A profound sense of spiritual sanctity and cultural exuberance enveloped the district of Poonch today as the first batch of Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims set foot in the region. The District Administration, under the dynamic stewardship of Deputy Commissioner Mr Vikas Kundal, orchestrated an elaborate reception, in collaboration with the Yatra Management Committee, civil society luminaries, and local residents, who turned out in large numbers to extend their heartfelt welcome.
Over one thousand devout pilgrims arrived in this inaugural convoy, thereby heralding the formal commencement of the deeply venerated annual pilgrimage-one that is not only steeped in religious significance but also emblematic of Jammu & Kashmir’s rich syncretic heritage.
In his address to the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal reiterated the unwavering commitment of the administration towards the seamless facilitation of the Yatra. He assured that a meticulous plan encompassing security, sanitation, medical aid, lodging, and other essential amenities had been instituted to ensure a safe and spiritually enriching experience for the yatris.
The welcome ceremony witnessed the gracious presence of distinguished dignitaries, including DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Mr Tejinder Singh, SSP Mr Shafket Hussain Batt, ADC Mr Tahir Mustafa Malik, ACR Mr Mohd Sayeed, DDC Member Mr Abdul Gani, along with senior district officers, yatra coordinators, revered religious figures, and esteemed members of the civil society. Their presence added an aura of solemnity and prestige to the occasion.
In a commendable display of local generosity and communal harmony, a series of refreshment counters and food stalls were strategically established to cater to the immediate needs of the pilgrims. Volunteers, many of them young locals, were seen extending water, snacks, and medical aid, showcasing the enduring tradition of “Mehman Nawazi” (hospitality) that Poonch is known for.
The arrival of this first batch marks the inception of a spiritually significant journey that spans nearly ten days, culminating in the sacred Chari Mubarak Yatra from Poonch town to the revered Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Shrine situated in the picturesque environs of Mandi.
This Yatra not only symbolises the religious devotion of countless followers but also stands as a testament to the cultural inclusivity and enduring faith that binds the people of this border district. For generations, the inhabitants of Poonch have exemplified a unique spirit of reverence and unity, embracing pilgrims from diverse regions with open arms and open hearts.
As the sacred bells echo and the chants of devotion fill the air, Poonch once again reaffirms its role as a guardian of heritage, an epitome of hospitality, and a proud host of one of Northern India’s most revered pilgrimages.
