Two Police Officials Suspended in Youth Killing Case in Sure Chak, SIT Constituted for High-Level Probe

Jammu, July 25:In a significant development following the tragic killing of a youth in the Sure Chak area, two police officials from the District Special Branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been placed under suspension. The action comes amid growing public outrage and demands for justice from the bereaved family and civil society.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Mr Joginder Singh (JKPS), issued the suspension order on July 25, 2025, vide Order No. 596 of 2025. The suspended officials – Head Constable Baljinder Singh and Selection Grade Constable Pawan Singh – have been accused of involvement in the fatal police firing incident that occurred on July 24.
In this concern, an FIR has already been registered at Police Station Satwari under FIR No. 153/2025 under section 109(1), 3(5)/BNS, 3/27 Arms Act. As per official directions, the suspended personnel will remain attached to District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu. They have been instructed to deposit their uniforms and official equipment at the DPL Store, and will only be entitled to draw subsistence allowance during the period of suspension, in accordance with the relevant rules and service regulations.
In a swift and responsive move, Superintendent of Police (SP) Jammu South Mr Ajay Sharma JKPS reached out to the grieving family and assured them that justice would be delivered transparently and without delay. He reiterated the department’s commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public trust.
Taking cognizance of the serious nature of the incident and the allegations raised by the victim’s family, the police administration has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case comprehensively. The SIT will be led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Headquarters and has been tasked with conducting an impartial and detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the firing and subsequent loss of life.
This strong administrative response is being seen as an effort to restore public confidence in the police machinery and ensure accountability within the force. The people of Jammu are closely watching the progress of the investigation, hoping that justice will be swift and fair.
As the probe continues, the focus now shifts to the SIT’s findings, which will determine the course of legal action and institutional reform in the days to come.
