In a major blow against a family-run drug syndicate, Miran Sahib Police, led by the astute team of SHO Inspector Jai Paul Sharma, arrested a brother-sister duo, Gurjeet Singh and Navneet Kour, with approximately 550 grams of heroin (‘chitta’) during a routine check at Balol Naka.
The operation, conducted under the overarching command of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, JKPS, highlights a disturbing trend of familial involvement in the narcotics trade, as the accused siblings’ mother, Rajinder Kour, was herself arrested by Punjab Police in a drug peddling case just last month.
A case FIR No. 91/2025 has been registered under the NDPS Act, and a comprehensive investigation, including a financial probe into the proceeds of the crime, has been launched to trace the source of the contraband and dismantle the entire supply chain.

In a meticulously executed operation that underscores the deep rot of the drug menace, the vigilant team of Police Station Miran Sahib, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Jai Paul Sharma, has apprehended a brother-sister duo, catching them red-handed with a substantial quantity of heroin. This significant breakthrough, achieved under the strategic zero-tolerance policy of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, JKPS, is not just another seizure; it is the exposure of a narco-syndicate seemingly run from within a single household, as the siblings’ mother is already incarcerated in a Punjab jail on similar charges.
The critical interception occurred at Balol Naka, a testament to the effectiveness of routine but alert policing. During their checking duties, the police team, which also included Probationary Sub Inspector (PSI) Ajesh Singh Jamwal, flagged down a scooty bearing registration number JK02DA-9805. A subsequent search of the riders led to the stunning recovery of approximately 550 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin, commonly known as ‘Chitta’, a haul; worth lakhs of rupees in the illicit market. The Scooty used to transport the contraband was immediately seized.
The arrested individuals were identified as Gurjeet Singh, son of Avtar Singh, and his sister, Navneet Kour, daughter of Avtar Singh, both residents of Village Tanda in R.S. Pura, Jammu. The arrest of a sibling pair involved in such a high-stakes peddling operation points towards a well-entrenched and deeply concerning family enterprise dedicated to the drug trade.
In connection with this major recovery, a case under FIR No. 91/2025 has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib, invoking the stringent sections 8, 21, 22, 29, and 60 of the NDPS Act. The successful operation was carried out under the close supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) R.S. Pura, Gurmeet Singh, and the Superintendent of Police (SP) Headquarters Jammu, Irshad Hussain Rather, exemplifying the cohesive command structure established by SSP Jammu.
The preliminary investigation has already yielded a shocking link that paints a darker picture of this narco-family. It has come to light that the mother of the arrested siblings, Rajinder Kour, wife of Avtar Singh, was herself arrested by Punjab Police just last month, in June 2025, in a drug peddling case registered at Police Station Shiata. This revelation suggests a multi-state, family-run operation that has now been dealt a severe blow by the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies.
A comprehensive investigation into the case is now in full swing. Police are meticulously working to trace the backward and forward linkages to pinpoint the source from where this large quantity of heroin was procured and its intended destinations and buyers. The interrogation of Gurjeet Singh and Navneet Kour is expected to provide crucial intelligence on the wider supply chain and distribution network.
