A historic budget session marks new beginnings for Jammu & Kashmir UT

Jammu, Mar 02: In a momentous event for Jammu & Kashmir, the Union Territory will formally begin its first-ever budget session tomorrow, with a key address by Lieutenant Governor, Mr Manoj Sinha. This budget session is not only significant as the inaugural one for the UT of Jammu & Kashmir but also marks the revival of the budget process after a long hiatus since 2018.
The last budget session for the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir took place in 2018, under the BJP-PDP coalition government headed by Ms. Mehbooba Mufti. After the dissolution of the elected state government and the reorganization of Jammu & Kashmir into a Union Territory in 2019, the region has been without a formal budget session until now. As the budget session is about to commence, the focus will be on the development works and government performance for the upcoming year, with expectations running high for substantial growth, infrastructural development, and overall progress for the region.
The session will feature two key political players – the National Conference (NC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – who are known for their strong political rivalry. Both parties hold significantly opposing views, with the NC seeking greater autonomy for Jammu & Kashmir and the BJP focusing on integrating the region more firmly into the Union Territory framework. The contrasting stances of these parties will undoubtedly create an interesting and dynamic atmosphere during the budget discussions and the overall legislative proceedings.
As the people of Jammu & Kashmir eagerly await the outcomes of this historic budget session, it remains to be seen how the government plans to address the pressing concerns of development, governance, and public welfare in the region. The budget will not only set the course for the UT’s future but also showcase the strength and resilience of the new administrative structure in Jammu & Kashmir, marking a new chapter in its history.
The budget’s impact will be keenly observed, as the session unfolds, and the people of Jammu & Kashmir look forward to meaningful steps towards transforming the Union Territory into a model of progress, stability, and prosperity.
