SSP Udhampur pulls strings in high-level meeting to strengthen action against bovine smuggling

Udhampur, Feb 18: In a resolute move to combat the escalating issue of bovine smuggling in the region, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, chaired a crucial review meeting at the District Police Lines in Udhampur today. The meeting was aimed at strategizing and reinforcing the district’s efforts in tackling the illegal trade of bovines, with a particular focus on intensifying surveillance and targeting key individuals involved, including the notorious masterminds behind these operations.
SSP Nagpure, known for his proactive leadership and commitment to public safety, instructed the officers to ramp up their vigilance on the well-known smuggling routes and actively collect intelligence on the movements of criminals involved in these illicit activities. He made it clear that the focus would be on identifying and apprehending the key players orchestrating this crime, ensuring swift and decisive action against them. His determination to eliminate this illegal practice from the district was evident, as he emphasized the need for no leniency in dealing with these offenders.
During the meeting, SSP Nagpure reiterated the importance of a unified and focused approach to tackling bovine smuggling. He made a firm statement, declaring that anyone involved in this illegal trade would face the full force of the law, and strict actions would be taken without exception. “We will not allow these criminal activities to thrive in our district. The law will take its course with the utmost severity,” he asserted, leaving no doubt about his unwavering stance against such illegal operations.
A comprehensive action plan was devised during the meeting, which included enhancing surveillance, increasing patrolling, and establishing checkpoints at vulnerable spots known for smuggling activities. The officers were also encouraged to collaborate more effectively with local communities, as their involvement is crucial in gathering vital intelligence and building strong cooperation to effectively counter the illegal trade.
SSP Nagpure also shared a detailed report on the police’s efforts in curbing bovine smuggling throughout 2024. The statistics were impressive: 345 FIRs were filed in Udhampur district, resulting in the arrest of 357 bovine smugglers. Six smugglers were booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), while a total of 3,219 bovines were rescued from illegal traders. Additionally, the police successfully seized 303 vehicles involved in smuggling operations, and 56 vehicles were recommended for the cancellation of their Registration Certificates due to their involvement in unlawful activities.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from the police to continue their relentless efforts in eliminating bovine smuggling and ensuring the safety and security of both animals and the local community.
