Srinagar, Oct 1: Jammu and Kashmir Government on Sunday suspended two senior Police officials, including a deputy superintendent of police, who was arrested last week on charges of corruption.
The officials suspended included Assistant Superintendent of Police Budgam Gowhar Ahmad Khan and Deputy Superintendent of Police Adil Mushtaq, who was arrested on September 21 on alleged corruption charges.
The police has constituted a five member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a Superintendent of Police, South City to probe the Adil Mushtaq case.
“In terms of Rule 31(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, pending an inquiry into his conduct, Shri Gowhar Ahmad Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police Budgam, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect”, reads an order issued today.
“It is further ordered that the Officer shall remain attached with Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, during the period of suspension”, reads the order further.
Similarly, regarding DySP Adil Mushtaq, the Government said that he be deemed to be under suspension with effect from September 21, 2023, the date of his arrest in a case pertaining to the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
“In terms of Rule 31(2) of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956, Shri Adil Mushtaq, Deputy Superintendent of Police, PID No. KPS155772, shall be deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from September 21, 2023 i.e the date of arrest of the Officer in case FIR No. 149/2023 under section 7, 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and section 167, 193, 201, 210, 218, 221 of IPC in Police Station Nowgam”, the order said.
