Army foiled drug smuggling bid along LoC, recovered 5.8 Kg heroin

Rajouri, Apr 29: In a major achievement, the Lam Battalion of the Indian Army has foiled narcotic smuggling bid reportedly from across the Line of Control (LoC) and recovered about 5.8 Kilograms of heroin-like substance along the LoC in Nowshera sector in Rajouri district.
Sources said in the morning hours on Thursday the alert troops of Lam Battalion, under the aegis of Ace of Spades Division, while on duty at a forward location somewhere in Sariya area noticed suspicious movement from across the LoC.
The troops challenged the alleged intruders who reportedly retrieved towards the PoJK side. Later the troops launched a search and a sensitization operation in the targeted area and found a black bag.
Taking all the precautionary security measures the troops found 6 packets of heroin-like substance weighing about 5.8 Kgms.
The consignment of the recovered drug has been handed over to police at the Lam police post under Nowshera police station for further investigation.
The police have registered a case under section 8/21 NDPS Act (FIR No.69/2022).
The presence of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) operating on this side of LoC and had gone to collect the drug consignment, can’t be ruled out, sources said.
