Politics in Jammu and Kashmir has emerged well before the independence and establishment of democratic government in erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. However till late sixties there were only two or four political parties in Jammu and Kashmir. Chief among these were National Conference, Indian National Congress, Praja Parishad (which later became Jana Sangh and is now known as Bharatiya Janata Party). Then the National Panthers Party also stepped into politics. In the nineties, the People’s Democratic Party emerged and before this the Muslim United Front was also established. Then Awami National Conference was formed and then the Jammu Kashmir Peoples conference was established. Recently another political party has come into existence called the Jammu Kashmir Apni Party. Many people allege that this party has the support of the BJP government at the Center, while some say that this is actually a branch of BJP as AAP is. How true is this or is just a rumor is difficult to tell and we do not even want to get into this mess. Our topic is what the status of these political parties is in the present scenario of J&K and what their popularity is. If it is said that at this time all political parties are in a state of sleep in Jammu and Kashmir, then this may not be wrong to a large extent. There may be many for this. Now it can also be said that all parties had not been due to Corona, but now most of the restrictions have been withdrawn. Secondly, the situation before Corona was more or less similar to the present, especially after 5 August 2019. If any statement of any party or any kind of activity gets any special place in the media, it goes in favor of BJP. One cannot claim that there are no problems or there are no demands of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. But all political parties are also almost silent on what is the condition of the youth. It looks like basic issues are not important in the present political scenario. This is a very big question, which no political party will answer, but the public must find the answer, only then some good can be expected in the next elections.
