Police files FIR against illegal adoption, sale of Covid orphans in Pampore

Srinagar, Dec 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday lodged an FIR after alleged illegal adoption and sale of Covid orphans has come to the notice of Mission Director, Integrated Child Protection Service (ICPS) J&K.
An official spokesman said, a non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has brought into the notice of ICPS about the news article appearing on a number of online portals regarding the alleged sale of Covid orphans by two persons.
The Mission Director ICPS directed the authorities concerned and the FIR was lodged at Police Station Pampore against the accused, he added.
Also, Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda has taken up the issue with IGP, Kashmir Vijay Kumar to ensure immediate action in the matter and initiate legal course of action under relevant laws, the spokesman added.
In addition, Mission Director, ICPS J&K, Shabnam Kamili, has issued instant orders to Child Welfare Committees to meet Covid orphans personally which have already been identified by the department and uploaded on different online portals of Government of India and submits a report to the Directorate of ICPS within a day’s time.
Further, fact finding committees were also constituted for Jammu and Kashmir divisions in order to ascertain the number of orphans and Covid orphans and their well-being in all the districts of the UT, the spokesman said. UNI
