Srinagar, Nov 8: Suspected militants shot dead a salesman of a Kashmiri Pandit shopkeeper in old city on Monday evening, official sources said.
Former chief minister Omar Abdullah condemned the killing of the civilian and said this is the latest in a series of targeted killings in the valley, especially Srinagar.
“The dastardly killing of Ibrahim is reprehensible & I unreservedly condemn it. Unfortunately Ibrahim is the latest in a series of targeted killings in the valley, especially Srinagar. May Allah grant him place in Jannat,” Omar tweeted.
They said gunmen fired upon Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, at Bohri Kadal area of the city.
“Khan, a resident of Bandipora, was critically wounded and shifted to hospital. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital,” they said.
A police spokesman said they have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law.
“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” the spokesman said.
This is the second killing in Srinagar in the last 24 hours. On Sunday evening, a police constable was shot dead at S D Colony Bemina. There have been a series of targeted killing of civilians since last month. At least 11 civilians including migrant workers and members of minority communities were killed by militants. UNI
