Srinagar, Oct 31: The famous Dal Lake in the Valley on Sunday witnessed a grand ‘Shikara’ boat rally to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as part of ‘Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’.
The ‘Shikaras’ were decorated and passed through several scenic spots of the lake giving a complete festive look to the ‘Lake of Flowers’.
The rally, which was held under the banner ‘Azadi Ka Amrut, was a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on ‘National Unity Day’. It was flagged off by Director, Tourism Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo.
Speaking to the media, Itoo said that holding of this rally in the prominent urban lake holds a special significance towards tourism development as ‘Dal Jheel is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir; popularly known as ‘Srinagar’s Jewel’.
He said, the government is dedicatedly working towards taking Jammu and Kashmir high in the world of tourism through launch of numerous innovative measures in this regard.
Itoo said that it is being ensured that all stakeholders are involved in tourism development programmes for effective outcome.
“Such kinds of events are being organised frequently in the Valley by the administration which has not only entertained the audience but is immensely helping towards tourism development here,” he maintained. UNI
