Rajouri, November 13: Rajouri police booked a woman under section 318 IPC (anyone who secretly buries or disposes of the dead body of a child to conceal its birth)-who in a chilling act had abandoned her newly born baby (dead) under a bridge in Nabhan Mohalla of Rajouri town on November 9-and started further investigation.
The cruel act came to light when at about 10 am on November 9, a few rag picker boys were collecting plastic from a river under the river in the Nabhan Mohalla area when they found a newly born baby packed in a box ( empty glucose case with hospital marking).
The boys informed the nearby shopkeepers and accordingly, police was informed at Rajouri Police Post.
A police team headed by the Police post In-Charge, Sub Inspector (probationer) Sahil Choudhary reached the spot and after legal formalities shifted the body to Associated Hospital GMC.
A formal case was registered in this matter under section 318 IPC (FIR NO.517/2023) at Rajouri police station and investigation proceedings were set into motion with a team of police headed by Sahil Choudhary under the supervision of SHO, Aeijaz Ahmed Wani & Deputy SP HQ, Mudassar Hussain.
During the course of the investigation and from reliable sources, it came to the fore that the newly born baby was delivered by Prevaiz Akhter wife of Naheem Ahmed resident of Village Niaka Panjgrian of Manjakot tehsil.
Investigation further revealed that the accused lady Parvaiz Akhtar had delivered this baby at the Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) in Rajouri and the family while returning home abandoned the baby in a river.
