Srinagar, Oct 30: In a first such killing in Kashmir this year, a non local labourer was shot dead by militants in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
The police identified the slain as Mukesh of Uttar Pradesh.
This is the second targeted attack in Kashmir since Sunday. A police inspector Masroor Ahmad was critically wounded after a militant shot at him in Srinagar’s Eidgah locality, while he was playing cricket.
Police said the labourer was shot dead in Tumchi Nowpora area of Pulwama when terrorists opened fire on the non local labour.
“Terrorists fired upon one labourer identified as Mukesh of U.P in Tumchi Nowpora area of #Pulwama, who later on succumbed to his injuries,” police said in a post on X .
The area was cordoned off by the joint forces to trace the attackers.
J&K Police chief Dilbag Singh said the case would be cracked soon as investigation has been set into motion.
“ Those involved in the killing of poor labourer will be traced,” he said.
This was the second militant attack on the outside workers this year. On July 13, three non-local labourers were shot at in Gagran village of south Kashmir’s Shopian. The attacks on the non-local labourers started in the valley in 2019 after the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
The killing of the labourer was condemned by the local political leadership. UNI
