Srinagar, Apr 5: The two militants who had escaped from police custody in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours were arrested on Wednesday evening, officials said.
They said the two identified as Maroof Nazir Soleh and Shahid Showkat Bala- both residents of Baramulla- were arrested from old town Baramulla.
“During the course of the investigation, Baramulla Police collected the CCTV footage of the incident. Police after utilising technical and human intelligence and after hectic efforts both the accused have been arrested this evening from old town Baramulla and are presently under custody at Police Station Baramulla,” a statement by Baramulla police said, adding investigation into the case is going on.
The two accused who were under custody at Police Station Baramulla escaped this morning in the wee hours during Sehri time. An alert was sounded in north Kashmir and security forces carried out various operations in and around Baramulla to locate the duo.
Soon after the two fled, a case was registered under relevant sections.
The two were arrested last year for their involvement in a grenade attack on May 17 last year on a newly opened wine shop in a high security zone in Baramulla that left one civilian dead and three others injured. UNI
