Rajouri, October 19: Security forces achieved a significant success during a joint search operation in Rajouri on Monday, recovering a cache of ammunition concealed inside a cave in the Chor Hill-Panch Gabbar area of Koteranka tehsil.
The operation was conducted by the Indian Army’s Romeo Force, SOG and intelligence agencies under the jurisdiction of Kandi Police Station.
Search operation was launched following apprehensions regarding suspicious activities and the possible presence of arms and ammunition in the area. The joint team searched the forest and adjoining sensitive locations before discovering the concealed cache inside a cave.
During the search, security personnel recovered nine Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) grenades, one AK-47 magazine, and 18 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
Notably, security forces had recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the same area a few days ago. The recovery of an explosive device, followed by the discovery of grenades and ammunition in the same locality, has raised security concerns, prompting increased vigilance in the surrounding region.
The timely detection and recovery of the IED had averted the risk of a potential incident. Following the latest recovery, security forces are maintaining surveillance over the adjoining forests and other sensitive locations to rule out the presence of additional concealed weapons or explosive material.
