JAMMU, APR 13: In a massive pre-dawn strike today, the Jammu and Kashmir Police moved to decisively dismantle the support structure of the notorious “Lau Gujjar” syndicate.
Executing simultaneous raids at approximately 07:30 AM, joint teams from Miran Sahib, Bishnah, and Arnia—under the direct supervision of SDPO RS Pura Gurmeet Singh—targeted key hideouts in Sarore and Chak Waziro.
The operation marks a shift in police strategy from targeting individual criminals to neutralizing the entire logistical network that has sustained high-level smuggling for over a decade.
The raid resulted in the apprehension of four high-value associates: Roshi Bibi (wife of Lau Gujjar), Bashir Ahmed (his father), Sham Din (his uncle), and Manna Bibi (a second wife).
Senior police sources characterized the operation as a tactical strike aimed at cutting off the “logistical oxygen” that allowed the kingpin, Gulzar Ahmed alias “Lau Gujjar,” to manage a criminal empire from the shadows.
By detaining the “elders” of the multi-generational syndicate, authorities believe they have neutralized the figures responsible for community-level intimidation and harboring absconding members.
The intensity of the crackdown follows the landmark arrest of Lau Gujjar on April 4, 2026, in Prithvipur, where he was found with a Glock pistol and 280 grams of heroin.
For years, Lau had famously evaded capture by inciting violent mob attacks on police teams, leveraging his deep-rooted influence in the border belts.
With a record exceeding 130 FIRs—including charges of murder, kidnapping, and large-scale narcotics trafficking—his removal from the field has become a top priority for regional security.
In a significant legal development, the Additional Special Mobile Magistrate RS Pura today extended Lau Gujjar’s police remand for another week.
This extension is critical for investigators who are now delving into the gang’s cross-border smuggling links and tracing the origin of high-end illegal weaponry.
This legal move, combined with the ongoing attachment of the gang’s illegally acquired properties, signals that the administration is no longer satisfied with mere arrests but is committed to the total financial and structural eradication of organized crime in the Jammu-Samba border belt.
