Notorious Drug Peddler Wanted in Bihar Nabbed by GRP Jammu

Jammu, Aug 13: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against narcotics, the Government Railway Police (GRP), Jammu has successfully apprehended a notorious drug peddler who had been on the run from law enforcement agencies in Bihar.

The accused has been identified as Sunil Kumar, son of Shrikand Singh, a resident of Masudhanpur Baisi, Bhawanpur, Rangra Chowk in District Bhagalpur, Bihar. Sunil Kumar was wanted in connection with FIR No. 105/2019, registered under Sections 20/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Jokihat, Bihar. He had been absconding during trial proceedings and had evaded arrest for several years.

Recognising the gravity of the case, the Court of the Sessions Judge, Araria, Bihar, issued a non-bailable arrest warrant on July 21, 2022, directing that the accused be apprehended and produced before the court at the earliest.

The long arm of the law finally caught up with the fugitive when, on July 23, 2025, Sunil Kumar was arrested by GRP Jammu in possession of banned narcotic substances, during routine surveillance and intelligence-led operations at the railway premises.

Following his arrest, a fresh case was registered against him under FIR No. 29/2025 at GRP Police Station, Jammu, under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act. He is currently lodged at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, awaiting further legal proceedings and eventual transfer to Bihar authorities as per the court’s directive.

The arrest of this absconder marks a notable success for the Jammu GRP in its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking networks operating across state lines. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to acting swiftly against such criminals and ensuring that no fugitive escapes the rule of law.

The GRP has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, reiterating that the fight against drugs requires collective action from both law enforcement and the community.
