Jammu, July 19, 2025: In a swift and decisive response that has restored a significant measure of public faith in law enforcement, Jammu Police has successfully arrested six individuals who were part of a notorious gang seen brazenly brandishing sharp-edged weapons and lathis while dancing on the Jammu Ring Road. The operation, executed under the overall command of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, JKPS, came after a disturbing video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread public outrage and raising serious questions about the state of law and order in the Kanachak area.
The viral video, which showed a group of men openly flaunting their weapons in broad daylight with no apparent fear of the law, acted as a catalyst. Social media was flooded with comments from concerned citizens, who identified the group as being repeatedly involved in a series of criminal activities, including night-time stone-pelting, looting vehicles, and rampant cattle and Khair wood smuggling along the same route. Many pointed out that despite their faces being clearly visible, the miscreants roamed freely, emboldened by a perceived lack of police action. Allegations were also made that the group had previously attacked a Forest Department vehicle and even pelted stones at police and SSB personnel on the Old Bridge in Akhnoor, creating an atmosphere of fear among locals.
Responding to this public outcry and taking immediate cognizance of the serious threat posed by the group, Jammu Police swung into action. A case under FIR No. 104/2025 was registered at Police Station Kanachak, invoking Section 191(2), (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 4/25 of the Arms Act for unlawful possession of weapons and disturbing public order.
Under the direct supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Domana and the Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Jammu, a comprehensive operation was launched. The charge was led by the Station House Officer (SHO) Kanachak, Inspector Manoj Dhar, who, along with teams from Border Police Post (BPP) Sandwan and BPP Gajansoo, conducted a series of coordinated raids at multiple locations to hunt down the culprits.
The well-executed operation resulted in the swift apprehension of six individuals. They have been identified as: Mohd Akram alias Bachu, son of Rashid Abdul, resident of Sanasar and presently at Rajpura, Tehsil Marh; Mohd Ameer alias Monu, son of Mohd Hanif, resident of Ramban and presently at Rajpura; Mushtaq Ahmad alias Billa, son of Maiyan, resident of Patnitop and presently at Rajpura, Tehsil Marh; Mohd Maneer alias Ballu, son of Saif Ali, resident of Dub Karam Din, Tehsil Marh; Sahil Sharma, son of Parshotam Lal, resident of Chatha Gujjran; and Nikhil Nandan, son of Madan Lal, resident of Chatha Gujjran.
During the operation, the police recovered two sharp-edged weapons and several lathis from their possession. Additionally, a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK21H 2517, which was used during the commission of the crime, has also been seized.
Jammu Police has issued a stern warning that such illegal and provocative acts will not be tolerated and that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the law. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the other accused individuals who were seen in the video but remain absconding. A thorough investigation is in progress to uncover the full extent of the gang’s criminal activities and network.
