Jammu, May 29: In a strong show of law enforcement excellence, Jammu Police under the leadership of SP South Ajay Sharma (JKPS) has delivered a series of impactful operations in the past 10 days, leading to major breakthroughs in violent crime, narcotics, theft, and environmental violations.
Addressing a press conference at Police Station Bahu Fort, SP Sharma detailed the results of targeted action carried out under the overall command of SSP Jammu Mr Joginder Singh (JKPS), and close supervision by SDPO East Sheezan Bhat (JKPS) and SDPO South Sunil Singh Jasrotia. These operations, conducted across the South Zone, reflect the growing responsiveness and strength of Jammu Police in tackling threats to public safety with both urgency and professionalism.
A particularly disturbing assault case that had shocked the people of Bathindi on February 18 was swiftly solved with the arrest of five individuals. The victim had been brutally beaten in a public place with sharp weapons and iron rods. Those arrested include Mohd Arif from Kathua, Mohd Ibrar Choudhary from Doda (currently residing in Rahemabad), Mohd Abdulla from Doda (now in Farkanabad), Mukhtiyar Ahmed from Doda, and Mohd Usman from Sunjwan. One key accused, Tahir Iqbal of Reasi, remains absconding but is likely to be apprehended shortly, with teams actively pursuing credible leads. The case, registered under FIR No. 59/2025 at Police Station Bahu Fort, was investigated by ASI Rajesh Kumar using a mix of technical surveillance and ground intelligence, earning praise from both media and citizens for timely justice.
In another high-profile incident, police solved a house theft case in Preet Nagar reported by Gurjeet Kour. Her house was looted on the intervening night of May 7 and 8, resulting in the loss of gold and diamond jewellery worth ?21 lakh. Within days, the accused Safar Ansari (23) from Bihar, Ibrahim (25) from Uttar Pradesh, and a minor whose identity has been withheld were arrested by the Digiana Police Post. Following their interrogation, the stolen items including gold chokers, bangles, and diamond ear tops were recovered and presented during the press conference. The case, registered under FIR No. 113/2025 at Gandhi Nagar Police Station, was cracked by PSI Sanjeev Sharma under the supervision of SHO Arun Sharma and SDPO South Sunil Singh Jasrotia.
Demonstrating its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, South Zone Police also solved a sensitive case involving a deaf and mute victim who was looted at knifepoint. The accused was quickly arrested following the lodging of FIR No. 165/25 at Bahu Fort Police Station, reflecting the inclusive and empathetic approach adopted by Jammu Police under SP Sharma’s leadership.
As part of its intensified war against drugs, Jammu Police South Zone registered six FIRs under the NDPS Act over the past 10 days, four of which were from the notorious drug hotspot of Rajiv Nagar. The crackdown resulted in the seizure of heroin (locally known as Chitta), ganja, and cash amounting to ?2,75,050. These operations are part of a larger strategy to dismantle narcotic networks that threaten the health and future of Jammu’s youth.
Efforts to curb vehicle theft also saw results, with one stolen vehicle recovered and four suspicious vehicles seized for verification. Meanwhile, the drive against illegal mining continues to gain momentum through “Operation Ploughing,” spearheaded by SP South Ajay Sharma himself. Conducted over the past 60 days across areas like Phallian Mandal, Chatha, Gadigarh, and Belicharana, the campaign has led to the seizure of 106 vehicles and imposition of fines totaling ?15 lakh in coordination with the District Mineral Officer.
Speaking at the press briefing, SP South Ajay Sharma praised the commitment and hard work of his officers and field teams. He emphasized that the Jammu Police will continue to act with resolve, sensitivity, and community focus. “Whether it is fighting crime, drugs, or protecting the environment, our objective remains to serve and protect every citizen with fairness and courage. Community trust is our biggest strength,” he said, urging the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities promptly.
