Udhampur, May 02, 2025: Demonstrating an unwavering resolve in its ongoing “War Against Drugs,” District Police Udhampur, operating under the comprehensive supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, has intensified its crackdown on narcotic networks, achieving significant results between January and April 2025. This four-month sustained offensive has resulted in substantial seizures of contraband, numerous arrests, and a decisive strike against the financial assets funding the illicit trade.
The aggressive campaign during this period saw the registration of 34 distinct cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This proactive enforcement led directly to the apprehension of 52 individuals allegedly involved in drug peddling and trafficking. These arrests were made under the provisions of both the NDPS Act and the more stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS)/Public Safety Act (PSA), indicating the seriousness with which authorities are pursuing repeat offenders and key players in the drug ecosystem.
Complementing the arrests, law enforcement teams impounded 13 vehicles identified as being instrumental in the transportation and distribution of narcotics, disrupting critical logistical chains used by traffickers. In a parallel move targeting the diversion of legal pharmaceuticals for illicit use, stringent checks led to the closure of four pharmacy shops found violating regulations concerning H1 (Schedule H1) drugs, often prone to abuse.
Striking at the financial underpinnings of the drug trade, Udhampur Police executed a significant financial crackdown. A total of 26 bank accounts linked directly to known drug peddlers were identified and frozen, immobilizing funds amounting to ?16,58,403. This action aims to choke the monetary flow essential for sustaining narcotics operations.
The cumulative value of the contraband seized during these operations reached a staggering ?1.64 crore, preventing a large volume of dangerous substances from reaching the streets.
Perhaps most impactful in dismantling the traffickers’ infrastructure was the attachment of properties acquired through the proceeds of crime. Assets, including residential buildings, vehicles, and commercial properties, with a combined estimated value of ?2.49 crore, were attached by the Police. Significantly, these attachments pertain not only to cases registered under the NDPS Act but also encompass assets linked to bovine smuggling cases, indicating a multi-pronged approach against organized criminal activities within the District.
The scale and success of these operations, executed meticulously under the overall guidance of SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, reflect the force’s consistent efforts, building upon previous successes in curbing the drug menace.
