Under SSP Shobhit Saxena’s leadership, Kathua Police launched a major crackdown on drug trafficking, registering 21 NDPS Act cases, arresting 28 individuals, seizing significant quantities of narcotics, and detaining six key individuals under the PITNDPS Act.
Beyond drugs, the police tackled bovine smuggling (753 animals rescued, 66 arrests), illegal liquor (15 cases, substantial seizures), and illegal mining (34 vehicles seized, significant fines), demonstrating a broad approach to law enforcement.
Saxena’s team prioritized public safety, detaining 21 individuals under the PSA, tracing 32 missing persons, and arresting four absconders, while also recovering Rs. 115,000 in stolen property.
The police secured 50 convictions in various cases (25 under the new BNS), demonstrating effective investigation and prosecution, and initiated the destruction of 2200 kg of seized narcotics, showcasing a commitment to long-term solutions.

Kathua, (Jammu), March 12, 2025: In a remarkable display of proactive policing and unwavering commitment to public safety, SSP Shobhit Saxena, IPS, has spearheaded a dramatic transformation in Kathua district within the first three months of 2025. Under his dynamic leadership, the Jammu Police in Kathua has achieved significant milestones in combating crime, upholding the law, and restoring public trust. Saxena’s tenure is not just about statistics; it’s a story of relentless pursuit of justice and a deep-seated commitment to the well-being of the community.
From the moment he took charge, SSP Saxena instilled a new sense of purpose and urgency within the force. His hands-on approach, combined with a strategic vision, has yielded impressive results across various fronts. The fight against the drug menace, a significant concern in the region, has been particularly noteworthy.
Under Saxena’s direction, the police have launched a relentless crackdown on drug trafficking. In just three months, 21 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered, leading to the arrest of 28 individuals. The seizures have been substantial, including 553.95 grams of Heroin, 337 grams of Poppy Straw, and 204 grams of Charas. But Saxena’s strategy goes beyond mere arrests. Recognizing the need for a strong deterrent, he has utilized the stringent PITNDPS Act to detain six individuals, sending a clear message that drug peddling will not be tolerated.
The commitment to maintaining public order is equally evident. Twenty-one individuals have been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), preventing them from disrupting the peace and security of the district. This proactive measure underscores Saxena’s commitment to pre-emptive action against those who pose a threat to society.
Bovine smuggling, another persistent issue in the region, has also been tackled head-on. An impressive 61 cases have been registered, with 753 animals rescued from smugglers. Sixty-six individuals have been arrested, and 62 vehicles used in the illegal trade have been seized, significantly disrupting this criminal network.
The crackdown extends to violations of the Excise Act, with 15 cases registered against 16 individuals. The police have recovered 106 bottles (750 ml), 27 bottles (375 ml), and a staggering 306 liters of illicit liquor, demonstrating a commitment to curbing the illegal liquor trade.
Beyond these specific areas, the police have also made significant strides in recovering stolen property, amounting to Rs. 115,000, bringing relief to victims of theft. Thirty-two missing persons have been traced and reunited with their families, showcasing the police’s dedication to resolving cases and providing closure. Four absconders, who had long evaded the law, have been apprehended, reinforcing the message that justice will be served.
Illegal mining, a threat to the environment and a source of revenue loss, has also been addressed. Thirty-four vehicles involved in illegal mining have been seized, and a substantial fine of Rs. 581,150 has been imposed, deterring future violations.
Furthermore, showing commitment in previous cases also, SSP Saxena’s team has initiated the process for the destruction of approximately 2200 kg of seized Narcotics and Psychotropic substances, ensuring that these dangerous drugs are permanently removed from circulation. The commitment to justice is further demonstrated by the impressive number of convictions secured – 50 in total, with 25 under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), showcasing the effectiveness of the police’s investigative work.
