Govt committed for ‘Restoration of Statehood’ and holistic development of J&K: LG Manoj Sinha

Jammu, Mar 03: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed the Jammu & Kashmir government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the legitimate demand for the restoration of full statehood for the region. In a significant address to the Legislative Assembly, Sinha assured that the government is fully engaged with all stakeholders to facilitate the process of restoring statehood in a way that ensures lasting peace, stability, and progress.
“One of the foremost aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is the restoration of full statehood. My government remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing this legitimate desire of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Lieutenant Governor Sinha, emphasizing that the administration recognizes the emotional and political importance of statehood for the people. He further assured that discussions are actively ongoing with all relevant parties to achieve this goal, with an approach that guarantees harmony and progress.
Preserving the Unity in Diversity:
Sinha highlighted the government’s deep commitment to preserving the cultural and social diversity that defines Jammu and Kashmir. “We take immense pride in our composite culture and centuries-old traditions of amity and brotherhood. My government is devoted to safeguarding the unity in diversity that has long been the hallmark of Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated. He reassured the people that the government is committed to fostering an inclusive society, maintaining peace, and countering divisive influences, while laying the foundation for a prosperous and harmonious future.
Empowering Local Governance and Grassroots Democracy:
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the government’s determination to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) through timely elections at all levels. “This move will not only promote citizen participation in decision-making but will also empower local governance, enabling more effective and inclusive development,” he said. He assured that adequate resources are being allocated to PRIs, ensuring they can carry out sustainable development initiatives in their respective regions.
Further, the government has ensured reservation of seats for Other Backward Classes in Panchayats, Municipalities, and Municipal Corporations, alongside granting reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes in the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir. The government has also extended reservation benefits to individuals residing in areas along the International Border, bringing them at par with residents of the Line of Control (LoC). Additionally, tribes such as the Paddari, Pahari, Gadda Brahmin, and Koli have now been included as Scheduled Tribes, while the Valmiki community has been recognized within the Scheduled Caste category.
Dignified Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants;
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the government’s commitment to the dignified rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants, ensuring their safe return to the Valley. “Efforts will be accelerated to complete the construction of transit accommodations for migrant employees, providing them with secure housing in designated locations,” he said.
