Poonch, Feb 06: Illegal mining activities in the Bufliaz region of Surankote, Poonch district, have reached alarming levels, causing significant environmental degradation and raising serious concerns among local residents. Despite the growing issue, authorities appear to be turning a blind eye, allowing the illegal miners to operate freely without any substantial checks or enforcement.
The illegal miners, driven by profit, have been exploiting the area’s natural resources with no regard for environmental preservation or community well-being. Heavy machinery, unregulated digging, and unauthorized extraction of minerals have transformed the once-pristine landscape into a barren wasteland. The unchecked mining practices have led to soil erosion, the depletion of water resources, and the destruction of local flora and fauna. What was once a scenic area has now become a hotspot for environmental damage, with no signs of control from the relevant authorities?
Locals are not only facing the destruction of their land and natural resources but are also dealing with serious health hazards. Dust, noise pollution, and contamination of water sources are creating a hazardous environment, with many residents reporting respiratory problems and skin conditions. Additionally, the area has become dangerous for pedestrians, as the constant digging and blasting have made the ground unstable and prone to accidents.
The lack of government intervention has fueled the situation, with illegal miners continuing their operations without fear of consequence. Authorities, despite being aware of the issue, have failed to take decisive action, allowing this illegal activity to persist unchecked.
The local community is calling for immediate attention and action from the district administration to put an end to the illegal mining and restore the environment to its former state. It is imperative for the authorities to take strict measures to prevent further damage and ensure that justice is served for the sake of the environment and the residents of Bufliaz.
The concerned DMO told that he would monitor the situation and also take strict action on the illegal miners. The DC Poonch told that he would direct the concerned authority to immediate stop illegal mining besides seize the equipments used in illegal mining.
