Lack of democracy pushed J&K people into vortex of difficulties: Farooq

Srinagar, June 11: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Sunday alleged that the lack of democracy and uncertainty have pushed the people of Jammu and Kashmir into a “vortex of difficulties”.
“The lack of democracy, uncertainty and anxiety have pushed the people of Jammu and Kashmir into a vortex of difficulties and the rulers sitting in New Delhi are crossing the limits of showing irresponsibility and unintelligence”, Farooq said during a function here.
The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said the Constitution of India guarantees equal rights to people belonging to every religion, caste and region.
“Every citizen of the country has the right to earn two times daily bread and live his life in peace and tranquility”, he said and added “it is the responsibility of every government to provide these rights to protect the democracy and freedom of the country”.
The Member Parliament said the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir were forcibly revoked in 2019, while the people here have been deprived of their democratic rights since 2018.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of a popularly elected government for the past 5 years and this attitude of New Delhi is not beneficial in any way”, he added.
Farooq said the National Conference has always made great sacrifices for safeguarding democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. He said his party has always worked for the unity among sections of the society irrespective of religion.
He urged the party workers to work together to strengthen the ranks of the party as well as take the lead in solving their problems by maintaining close contact with the people.
He said the secret of the party’s strength lies in strictly adhering to the party’s manifesto and constitution. UNI
