Lucknow, Sep 27: Various agencies of Uttar Pradesh police on Monday carried out simultaneous searches on the locations of Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) in 26 districts of the state and detained 57 suspects.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that in the wake of violent and anti-national activities carried out by the PFI and its affiliated organisations in different parts of the state searches were carried out in 26 districts. He said that 57 people have been detained and are being quizzed.
He said that in the wake of increasing anti-national activities of PFI workers the police, Special Task Force and Anti Terror Squad (ATS) carried out searches in the premises of organisation’s office-bearers and workers.
Kumar said that documents and evidence recovered during the searches are being analysed jointly. Further legal action will be taken on the basis of the documents and evidence.
Police sources said that six PFI workers were detained in the state capital Lucknow. UNI
