2 AGuH militants killed in Srinagar gunfight

Srinagar, Sep 14: Security forces shot dead two local militants of radical Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) during a gun battle which erupted on Wednesday evening on Srinagar outskirts, police said.
They said the gunfight broke out at Nowgam area during a cordon and a search operation launched jointly by Police and Army following a specific input about militant presence.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed,” a police spokesman said.
The two were identified by police as Aijaz Rasool Najar of Pulwama and Shahid Ahmad alias Abu Hamza.
“As per police records, both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and were linked with proscribed terror outfit AGuH,” the spokesman said.
Police said both the slain were involved in several attacks on police, forces and civilians.
“Besides, they were also involved in recent attack on an outside labourer namely Muneer ul Islam of West Bengal on September 2, at Ugergund Newa area of Pulwama,” he added.
Police said an AK series rifle, two pistols and a Grenade were recovered from the site of the encounter.
All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
