Srinagar, Jan 9: Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which connects Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, remained closed for vehicular traffic due to landslides triggered at several places, officials said on Sunday.
Men and machines are at work to clear the landslides at Cafeteria Morh, Mehar, Maroge, Duggi Pulli and other places on the highway, a Traffic Police official said.
The highway was reopened on Friday morning for light motor vehicles on either side after the debris, which had accumulated due to the landslides and shooting of stones occurred in some areas, were cleared.
However, fresh landslides triggered on the highway at several places due to heavy rains have blocked the highway again.
People have been advised not to undertake journey on the highway till the restoration work is completed, the official said.
Several other far-flung areas also remained closed and cut off due to the heavy accumulation of snow, the official added.
The historical Mughal road connecting Shopian district in south Kashmir to Rajouri in Jammu division remained closed for vehicular traffic due to heavy accumulation of snow since December 23 last year.
