In Jammu and Kashmir the month of December is considered to be the second phase of the four phase winter season. Harsh cold winds and a considerable drop in the night temperature are like a signal of the coming severe winter climate with rains and snowfall. This also results in blockade of several link roads and also of state and national highways. But on the political front the temperature seems to be becoming hot with every coming day. This is indicated by the tours and rallies of political leaders of various political parties across Jammu and Kashmir. Secondly the political allegations, counter allegations, claims, promises, slogans and holding of meetings with public as well as with party workers are also helping in raising the political temperature in UT of Jammu and Kashmir. These are very strong signals for the possibility of holding elections in Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir in the coming couple of months. During the last couple of weeks there has been a sudden increase in political activities. BJP is vigorously, aspiring to win the elections in Jammu and Kashmir since 1947. As such the party has almost initiated (unannounced) full election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. The visits of about seventy three union Ministers to the UT one by one during last month is a clear cut message that elections for J&K could be announced in the coming few months. Till then BJP wants to consolidate its position in the UT at least in Jammu division and some parts of valley before the announcement of elections. Secondly, the union government will also try its best and will not hesitate to use any format or formula or method to make them join BJP and if not then defame the local prominent leaders of the opposition parties like National Conference and Congress. The people of UT may soon see some expected activities of various government agencies against opposition leaders and their supporters. Besides, some politicians have alleged that there is also a possibility of some attempts to religiously polarize the situation. This polarization will help BJP in Jammu and their silent partner PDP in Kashmir valley. Some attempts, which have already begun, will be made to popularize the Apni Party, another silent partner of BJP as alleged by the opposition. Apni Party as described by the opposition shall be used to cut the votes of congress in Jammu division and in Kashmir valley by projecting Apni Parti as an opponent of BJP, which is not true. On the other side National Conference has also started mobilizing its cadre for the anytime expected elections. Congress too has initiated a process of election preparedness though, in a very silent mode. These elections are very crucial not only for all parties but also for the future of Jammu and Kashmir. But what actually is in the mind of people of UT J&K is not yet clear. The silence of the people and also a sort of aloofness from the political activities is suspenseful and as such it is very difficult to ascertain the exact mood of the public. So in such circumstances to predict the result of the election is not an easy task.
