Four medical officers in Himachal tested Covid-19 positive

Hamirpur, Oct 28: Four senior medical officers of Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, have tested Covid-19, according to health officials on Thursday.
According to officials, four senior medical officers from ENT and Surgery departments of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, have tested Covid-19 positive, creating a scare in the state-level hospital.
As per the information, samples of doctors were taken at IGMC on Tuesday, wherein four doctors were tested positive on Tuesday night, while the report of one of them is yet to come.
Confirming the report, IGMC Medical Superintendent, Dr Janak Raj said people should abide by the Covid-19 guidelines.
Meanwhile, 249 people including 79 students in Himachal Pradesh were tested Covid-19 positive. In Kangra district, as many as 59 school students were tested positive, while two corona positive patients died on Tuesday.
Keeping in view the growing number of students testing Covid-19 positive, the state government has decided to close the schools and colleges from November 1 till November 7 to break the chain of the virus.
According to the latest report, the government will take a final decision to open the schools on November 1 during a Cabinet meeting.
As per the latest reports, Delta and Delta Plus variants of covronavirus have become active again in the state.
Health Secretary Amitabh Awasthi has discussed with the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer about the arrangements regarding the possible third wave and directed them to remain vigilant.
Notably, there are 1,972 corona active cases as of Thursday and the total number of confirmed cases stood at 2,23,406. The number of cured cases was 2,17,693 and the number of total fatalities in the state stood at 3,725.
The worst affected are from Kangra with 840 active cases, followed by Hamirpur with 377 cases, Una with 229 cases, Mandi with 185 cases, Bilaspur with 136 cases, Shimla with 106 cases, Solan with 31 cases, Kullu with 37 cases and Chamba with 22 cases.
No cases existed in the Sirmaur district, which was declared corona free earlier this week. UNI
