Srinagar, Oct 21: J&K Police on Thursday said that seizing of bikes or shutting down the Internet of some towers is purely related to militancy-related incidents in the Kashmir Valley.
From the last three days, J&K police has seized hundreds of two-wheelers, without giving the bikers any reason. The seizure of two wheelers has added to the misery of people who have been seeking answers from the police on this drive.
Many bikers were seen outside the police stations in the city waiting that their bikes to be released.
While the bikers are annoyed with the police drive, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference had expressed concern over the ‘undue intimidation’ the public is facing at the hands of security forces and police on account of rampant motor bike seizures.
Party’s Additional Spokesperson Ifra Jan strongly echoed the public outrage over the rampant stopping and frisking and ‘unjustified’ motor bike seizures by security forces.
In wake of recent targeted killings, the government has also suspended mobile Internet in some areas in Srinagar.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar on Thursday evening said that seizing some bikes or shutting down Internet of some towers is purely related to militancy-related incidents.
“Seizing some bikes and shutting down the internet of some towers is purely related to terror violence. It has nothing to do with visit of the Hon’ble HM,” a police tweet quoted the IGP Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Police has established a toll-free helpline at Police Control Room Kashmir and asked people to feel free to call on 1800-180-7193 (24×7) in case of any exigency or assistance. UNI
