In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA), is planning to install 5,000 Solar Power Pumps under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Uthan Mahabhiyaan (PM-KUSUM) scheme in J&K in the first phase out of which 2,500 pumps will be installed in the current fiscal.
AIR correspondent reports that CEO, JAKEDA, Babila Rakwal disclosed this today during the launch of a publicity cum awareness programme for PRIs and farmers of Ramban district in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam.
Worth to mention, the PM-KUSUM scheme has been launched by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the upliftment of farmers in the country.
Keeping in view the topography and irrigation challenges in Ramban district, the UT level campaign was started from Ramban to provide maximum benefit to farmers of the district from this beneficiary oriented schemes.
Pertinently, under the scheme, Subsidized Solar Powered Agriculture Pumps in the capacity range of 2 HP to 10 HP shall be installed throughout the country.
The scheme provides 50 per cent subsidy from Central Government, 30 per cent from J&K Govt. and only 20 per cent as farmer’s share.
The scheme shall be implemented in J&K by JAKEDA, Department of Science & Technology.
This step will provide an additional source of income to farmers who will be in a position to use this energy for other purposes.
