True grit: A man of versatile skills!
DIG Vivek Gupta is always on the ball, mind ticking, working for betterment

Five districts to overlook, one man to see, the task obviously has to be difficult but not impossible. This is a job which only a perfectionist can do! And to a degree definitely DIG Vivek Gupta can do it with aplomb. He has to keep moving from Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Samba to Kathua since he is the DIG but I’m sure that if asked about perfection he most likely will say, ‘I am glad for my other responsibilities for others, because without them my perfectionist nature toward my passions would consume me entirely’. One can be a perfectionist in intellectual, artistic or sporting pursuits, and very laisez-faire in others. Indeed, it is an advantage in being so because it frees up cognitive brain power for the development of the institution and the place of duty. The institution is the elite Jammu and Kashmir Police and places of duty I have already mentioned!
The man is slim, trim and physically fit. Juxtaposed on this is the crispy Khaki outfit and the blue barrette  which gives him that extra bit, a special aura that up lifts his magnetic presence. His eyes have a look of long yearned for hard work beneath stretched eyelids. His gait very upright, steps rhythmic and fast speed movement with the customary nod and a hand shake, somewhat making his presence felt to the audience sitting still calm, mannequin-like instead of mirroring his joviality. His smile never wanes and the very first words comes a raucous cheer of welcome from the men all draped in Khaki very eager to listen to him.  All know that DIG Vivek Gupta has arrived and now it is time to take down the instructions. Just a few days back he was in Mendhar to address the men. One gesture of his really moved me as my correspondent there was covering the event and this is what he told me, ‘as the DIG got on to the podium to take the guard of honor, the afternoon prayer from the mosque reverberated in the air. The DIG did not take the Guard of honor to be presented to him and just said that it is prayer time and such things can be done sometimes later!’ Splendid gesture appreciated by all! This clearly suggests that the man is down to earth and absolutely God fearing! He loves his men and thus they love him too!
As a true leader he always has a specific set of instructions perhaps, could be like this, happiness comes when you do what you love and love whom you are. Perfectionism is part of the recipe for such success and happiness, yet it is similar to salt in a dish, you need it to bring out the flavors, yet too much spoils it completely. Balance is key. Seeing his demeanor and what I have written in my earlier stories this should be the way he functions. Great leader to whom the officers and the men listen and get the urge to get on with the things. And if performance of Jammu and Kashmir Police is to be seen in the five districts in 2020 one thing is arrow straight, ‘the officers and men have produced splendid results and they have all come with mega scale efforts, more importantly smilingly as if they were ona next street errand.
If a man is a good leader then the next thing that he has to be strategically, tactically and technically sound which indeed he is. The Districts I have mentioned have all been hit by the notoriety of the incorrigible Nation across the lOC and IB in UT Jammu and Kashmir, the Police, SOG have done a great job in the hinterland where the burlesque men carrying arms, ammunition drugs and cash for an insane mission have been nabbed. Drone drops have been foiled, material brought in confiscated and the carriers nabbed. This cannot be done if the officers and men are round the clock three hundred and sixty degrees on the watch. Jammu and Kashmir Police is a top of the deck Police Force in India. Put them anywhere and be rest assured that the job would be done. All this is because men like Vivek Gupta other comrades of his are working over time, when we ordinary mortals are cozy tight enjoying the heat of warmers and quilts!
Nothing was ever a problem for him. He is a strict disciplinarian, today for him is more important than a hundred tomorrows. Today was given, tomorrows are only a concept. That is why Jammu and Kashmir Police flows through his life like water, absolutely at a fluid velocity, totally focused on the job and hand and there is something about him that draws people to him. He is quiet, somber a reserved man, like a  one making a conscious choice to observe the lie of the land before he gets involved. Yet he isn’t stand-offish, he remains friendly faced and welcoming in body posture. It wasn’t like that he sat down one day and planned to be like that, it’s just the way he is. Usually in my personality description I’m never wrong but I desperately want that here I should be spot on. My tribute to a great soldier of Jammu and Kashmir Police was what I have above written! He still has miles to travel in this more than thousand step journey! All the best to Jammu and Kashmir Police since they are the best!
