Massive Protest in Sainth Village Over Lethal Attack on Journalists, Youth Demand PSA Against Accused

Jammu, Aug 7: A large number of youth held a strong protest in Sainth village against the alleged police inaction in the recent murderous attack on journalists Atul Sudan and Ashwani Bhardwaj. Accusing the police of going soft on the culprits, the protesters demanded immediate imposition of the Public Safety Act (PSA) against those involved.
The protesters claimed that if timely action had been taken against these elements, such a brutal assault could have been prevented. They highlighted that numerous incidents of loot, cattle smuggling, and drug trafficking have occurred between Bawe Talab and Daskal Chowk, yet police have failed to act decisively.
They alleged that even police checkpoints have been attacked multiple times, but no serious attention has been paid. “These people openly assault others with sharp-edged weapons in broad daylight, but no one holds them accountable,” one protestor said.
In the case of the recent attack, the FIR reportedly includes only bailable sections. “There are no charges of attempt to murder, no mention of sharp weapons used, nor of the vehicle damage which amounts to lakhs,” the youth alleged. They further claimed that three persons have been detained, but no strict interrogation is being carried out.
Prior to this incident, a similar attack was made on a vehicle of a Forest Department officer, and a complaint was submitted to Kanachak police station, but no FIR was registered.
Raising slogans like “We want justice,” “Wake up police administration,” and “Stop hooliganism,” the protesters demanded swift and strict action.
