With a view to maintain better sanitation and hygiene in the market of the Jammu City and also to stop disposal of garbage & other waste materials on roads, today on 20/02/21 Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation in presence of Sh. Yash Paul Sharma Hon’ble Chairman Swacch Bharat Committee, Sh. Jeet Kumar Councillor of ward no. 12 distributed about 200 numbers of dustbins among the shopkeepers of Canal road area under “Swacch Bharat Mission” S. Hardeep Singh I/c Sanitation Officer, Sh. Hira Lal Khajuria, Sh. Vijay Kumar Sanitary Inspectors, Sh. Bansi Lal Sanitary Supervisor and other field staff of Health Section of JMC as well as representatives of Canal road shopkeepers association were remained present during the function which was held in a very simple manner. Mayor appealed to the shopkeepers, hoteliers and other businessman not to throw garbage waste on roads, public lanes & corners of the city and handover the same only to the designated vehicles of JMC which have been kept exclusively for this purpose and also make people aware of the fine and penalties to be imposed on defaulters and violators as per municipal Bylaws for littering and open dumping of garbage including construction & demolishing (C&D) waste etc. The market association assured the JMC Mayor that they will provide full cooperation to them for maintaining sanitation upto the satisfactory level. Mayor appeal the general public to come forward and join hands with JMC & other allied departments so that the aim of Swachh Bharat Mission can be achieved and assured the citizens of the city that no stone shall be remained unturned in providing better sanitation facilities. Later Mayor alongwith Sh. Gopal Gupta councilor of ward no. 5, Sh. Anil Kumar Masoom Councillor of ward no. 10 conducted tour of Jogi Gate, Sh. Sunil Thusoo, Joint Commissioner (W), Sh. R.K Mahajan, Executive Engineer, Sh. Raj Khajuria I/c Assistant Executive Engineer Division–I, S. Harvinder Singh I/c Chief Transport Officer, S. Hardeep Singh I/c Sanitation Officer, Shakeel Gill, Sanitary Inspector & other supervisory staff of Health & transport section were also accompanied the Mayor during the tour. Mayor took serious not of the insanitary condition prevailing in the vicinity of cremation ground complex as well as broken drains & iron gratings. He directed strictly to the concerned Sanitary Inspector to deploy existing SKC’s of the ward on routine basis to maintain better sanitation in & around the Jogi Gate complex. He also asked the Chief Transport Officer to depute his men & machinery & get the heaps of silt, garbage removed at an earliest. Besides this, engineering section were also given on spot instructions to start the construction work of drains, fixation of tiles and iron gratings over the drains and plantation of more & more saplings at the available space for eco friendly atmosphere and rectification of defunct High mast lights, repairing of broken water taps as large number of public from all walks of life visits at Jogi Gate to attend the last rites of their known deceased persons on daily basis and faces much hardships especially during rainy season due to water logging and broken sheds in the area.
